Dries Raeymaekers studied History at the University of Leuven and defended his doctoral dissertation on the Habsburg court of Brussels in the reign of Albert and Isabella (1598-1621) at the University of Antwerp in 2009. This study was awarded the Prize for Historical Research 2010 by the Province of Flemish-Brabant (Belgium).
In 2010 he spent a semester as a Fulbright Scholar at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. Afterwards he received a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Flemish Research Foundation (FWO) and returned to Antwerp to work on a project on the role of princely favourites and the 'politics of access' at the Habsburg Court of Brussels in the 17th century.
In August 2012 he joined the History Department of Radboud University, where he teaches Early Modern Political and Cultural History. In 2015, he received the University Teaching Award. His current research focuses on the political role of illegitimate children in European princely dynasties.
