Jacqueline’s research focus is aimed at unraveling the causes and consequences of substance use and addictive behavior. Jacqueline is a full professor at the Behavioural Science Institute since October 2015. She studied Biology at the VU University and did a PhD project about the genetics of smoking behavior at the department of Biological Psychology of the VU University. She continued her research there as postdoc, assistant-, associate- and (in 2014) full professor. In the course of the years, she extended her research interest from (genetics of) smoking to other substances (cannabis, alcohol, caffeine) and addictive behavior (like compulsive internet use). In 2011, Jacqueline received an ERC Starting Grant for her project “Beyond the genetics of addiction”. She aims to further investigate the interaction between genetic vulnerability and environmental factors in the development of addictive behavior at the BSI in Nijmegen.
