I am an Assistant Professor at Radboud University, where I teach courses on modern literature and literary theory. In general, my scholarship is guided by an interest in the influence of economic and political conditions on the production of the arts. The history of cosmopolitanism and recent murmurs of a return to formalism are special areas of interest. I have developed a particular expertise in nineteenth-century British literature, with emphasis on the novels of Anthony Trollope. I am currently working on a literary history of poetry and diplomatic practices, from the Congress of Vienna up to the present.
