This course is designed to empower you in integrating qualitative data analysis seamlessly into two prevalent case-based research designs: comparable case and process tracing. The cornerstone of this course's focus lies in thematic analysis, a versatile and widely embraced method used to identify patterns or themes within qualitative data. You tailor this approach specifically to complement comparable case and process tracing analyses.
You kick off by exploring thematic analysis on Day 1, emphasizing its adaptability across diverse research designs.
Days 2 and 3 zoom in on pattern-based analytical techniques within the comparable case strategy. Here, you delve into employing thematic analysis for both within-case and cross-case insights, refining your skills in code and theme development to extract descriptive and explanatory insights from the data.
Days 4 and 5 go deeper into merging pattern-based data analysis with the process tracing approach. You contextualize thematic analysis within within-case explanatory research, covering crucial steps like managing, coding, displaying, and using data for causal inferences in process-tracing studies. Utilizing interactive lectures and exercises with sample data in Nvivo (and other QDA software), you focus on understanding assumptions, refining research goals, and maintaining high-quality standards of data work. This ensures precise alignment of data analysis techniques with comparable case and process tracing designs.
Throughout the course, daily tasks and tailored sessions help you integrate these designs into your unique research contexts. Finally, hands-on class assignments and group exercises with real data go beyond just exploring thematic analysis in case-based research.
