Henk-Jan Kooij is educated as an Environmental Planner and Economic Geographer. His main research focus lies on grassroots innovations affecting sustainable ways of living, such as local energy initiatives and bicycle movements. His current research project is part of a JPI Climate programme and is called “Mobilizing grassroots capacities for sustainable energy transitions: path improvement or path change? ” (MobGIs). This research is carried out in cooperation with Aalborg University and Linköping University and focuses on the role of local renewable energy initiatives in the energy transition towards renewable energy. His past research dealt with political aspects of innovations in the spatial organisation of our world and the role of spatial policies -such as urban and spatial planning- in fostering innovation.
