If you have obtained a VWO-diploma, you automatically meet the language requirements.
Are you not directly admissible?
If you cannot be admitted automatically to the Bachelor’s programme of your choice, then you must have the digital admission process added to your enrolment procedure.
Following your request in Studielink, you will automatically receive an invitation to complete a digital questionnaire. Your answers to this questionnaire will then be assessed by the admission committee of the programme for which you have registered. The admission committee decides whether you can be admitted and what additional requirements will apply to you. Within approximately three weeks of submitting your questionnaire, the Admissions Office will inform you of the admission committee’s decision by e-mail.
You can apply for the Bachelor's programme in Comparative European History if you have a propaedeutics certificate from a University of Applied Sciences (HBO Propedeuse) obtained within one year and an average grade of at least 7,0 (out of 10). To prove sufficient English language proficiency, you need to have obtained English at vwo-level or submit an English language certificate. Students who have completed the first year of a fully English-taught HBO programme do not need to provide further proof of English proficiency.
If you are not admissible on the basis of your diploma and you are 21 years of age or older (at the start of the programme), you could be admissible via a colloquium doctum.
The colloquium doctum is a suitability assessment for a Bachelor’s programme at Dutch universities. This assessment is initiated by the colloquium doctum committee of the programme.
As part of the admission examination for the Bachelor’s programme Comparative European History, you must be able to prove that you have passed the following courses at the level of VWO (Dutch pre-university education) final examination:
The colloquium doctum is a suitability assessment for a Bachelor’s programme at Dutch universities. This assessment is initiated by the colloquium doctum committee of the programme.
As part of the admission examination for the Bachelor’s programme Comparative European History, you must be able to prove that you have passed the following courses at the level of VWO (Dutch pre-university education) final examination:
- English
- Dutch
- Mathematics A or Mathematics B
Dutch and English are compulsory. Mathematics is required as the third certificate. In exceptional cases, Mathematics can be replaced by another subject. In that case, you must be able to demonstrate (prior to application) that you already have a certificate for another relevant subject. If this is the case, please contact the admissions committee via toelatingscommissie [at] let.ru.nl (toelatingscommissie[at]let[dot]ru[dot]nl).
Please note for colloquium doctum we only accept VWO certificates, i.e. obtained via a Dutch school for secondary education (VWO/VAVO) or via DUO. Language certificates like Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS, NT2-II and Mathematics certificates like CCVX, Boswell, OMPT are not accepted as substitutes for VWO certificates in colloquium doctum.

Deadline
Because of the procedure and the preparation for the tests, we advise you to apply in Studielink between 1 October and 1 November, for admission to the academic year that starts the following September.
Application procedure
To apply, follow the regular application procedure at the bottom of this page. We recommend that you fill in/complete the online questionnaire (step 5 in the application procedure) as soon as possible after receiving it. If you have to take a state examination, make sure to apply for the exam on time via DUO. This is possible from mid-October until 31 December.
Non-Dutch degree
Admission requirements
Your foreign diploma must be equivalent to a Dutch high school (VWO) diploma or a higher-level diploma, such as, but not limited to the International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate, German Zeugnis der allgemeinen Hochschulreife and British GCE-A Level. Your diploma will be assessed on an individual basis in order to determine whether you can be admitted.
You must also be fluent in both written and spoken English. This requirement is satisfied when you obtained a Dutch VWO diploma or a different diploma/language certificate listed on the language requirements page.
Diploma-specific requirements
To see whether you are eligible for admission, please complete the Eligibility Check by following the button below. The Eligibility Check will give you an indication as to whether or not you are eligible for admission. However, please note that no rights can be derived from the results.
Once you apply to the study programme your admissibility will be formally determined by the Admissions Office and by the faculty. If the level is considered to be sufficient, you are either directly admissible or additional conditions may apply.
English Language requirements
Your level of English needs to be sufficient in order for you to succeed in the programme. You can satisfy the English language requirement if you have obtained a:
- Dutch VWO diploma;
- Certificate of a full English-taught propaedeutic programme obtained at a Dutch University of Applied Sciences;
- Bachelor's Degree from a Dutch University of Applied Sciences;
- International Baccalaureate diploma;
- European Baccalaureate diploma, in which the course English Language 2 or 1 was taken;
- Diploma equivalent to, or higher than, the Dutch VWO level by completing education at an institution in one of the member states of the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada (with the exception of Quebec), New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America, where the language of instruction is English;
- One of the following diplomas, having passed English in the final examinations:
- Austrian Reifezeugnis/Reifeprüfungszeugnis
- Belgian Diploma van Secundair Onderwijs
- Danish Studentereksamenbevis
- Finnish Ylioppilastutkintotodistus/Studenterexamenbevis
- German Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife
- Luxembourgish Diplôme de Fin d’Études Secondaires
- Norwegian Vitnemal for Videregaende Skole
- Swedish Slutbetyg fran Gymnasieskolan
If you do not meet the English language proficiency requirement via one of the conditions above, you can satisfy the requirement via an English exam.

Application procedure
You must first make sure you meet the admission requirements of the Bachelor's programme you would like to apply for. To apply for a programme, you need to submit an enrolment application in Studielink before the application deadline and then follow the steps below.
Steps
Step 1: Submit an enrolment application in Studielink
You can apply for the Bachelor’s programme at Radboud University via Studielink. You can apply for a programme for the following academic year from 1 October onwards.
Please note: make sure you have a DigiD
You need to have a DigiD to apply for a programme in Studielink. If you do not have your own DigiD, you must request one via digid.nl; you will need to do this well before the application deadline. It usually takes five working days before you have received your activation code for your DigiD. If you do not live in the Netherlands or you still have to move here, you will not be able to use a DigiD and you will have to use your username and password to log in to Studielink.
Step 2: Follow up on your ‘To-do Actions’ in Studielink
After you have applied, all of your ‘To-do Actions’ in Studielink must be carried out in good time. So, keep a close eye on your emails (including the ones in your spam inbox).
Step 3: Take part in the Study Compatibility Check
You will be sent the login details for completing a digital questionnaire via the email address that you provided in Studielink. This questionnaire is part of the Study Compatibility Check, which is a final check to see if your expectations about the study programme are realistic and if you understand what we expect from you as a student.
Step 4: Keep an eye on your inbox
Once Radboud University has received your application, we will check to see whether you are directly admissible to the Bachelor’s programme for which you have applied. You will then receive one of the following results by email:
- You will be granted unconditional admission, which means that you can enrol in the study programme.
- Your previous education needs to be assessed by the Admissions Committee, which means that you will need to proceed to Step 5.
Step 5: Complete the digital questionnaire (but only if your previous education needs to be checked by the Admissions Committee)
If your previous education needs to be assessed by the Admissions Committee, you will receive login details for a digital questionnaire, OSIRIS Application, at the email address that you provided in Studielink. You will need to log in to the questionnaire, and once you have completed it you need to upload the requested documents. Please make sure that you complete the questionnaire and upload the documents as soon as possible after you have received this login information. Your application for admission will then be processed. There are three possible outcomes:
- You will be unconditionally admitted, which means that you can enrol in the study programme.
- You will be conditionally admitted: your admission decision contains the conditions that you will need to fulfil before you will be able to enrol in the study programme.
- You will not be admitted: your application will then be withdrawn from Studielink. You will receive further details by email about why your application was rejected.
The details of this outcome will be sent to the email address that you provided in Studielink.

You must first make sure you meet the admission requirements of the Bachelor's programme you would like to apply for. The application procedure then consists of two steps: first, submitting an enrolment application in Studielink, then uploading documents in OSIRIS Application.
Steps
Step 1: Submit an enrolment application in Studielink
To apply for a Bachelor’s programme, you have to create an account and submit an enrolment application in Studielink (the national online registration system for Dutch universities). First you will be asked to fill in your previous education, then select the programme you wish to apply for in the list that appears.
Step 2: Upload documents in OSIRIS Application
After you have submitted an enrolment application in Studielink, you will receive an email with personal login details for OSIRIS Application. You have 56 days to upload your documents and submit a complete application. If you have not submitted your application after this period, it will be automatically cancelled. Please note that if you apply close to the deadline, you will have fewer than 56 days.
You will be asked to upload the following documents:
- Scan of valid passport (personal details page only) or European ID card
- Diploma
If you have graduated and received your diploma, you are required to upload it (signed and stamped) to your application. If you have graduated but have not received your diploma or if you have not yet graduated, you can indicate this in the application form. In OSIRIS Application, please list the full, official name of the diploma that you have or will receive. Please use the language and name in which the diploma is issued.
- Radboud Statement of Education form
If you have not graduated yet, we ask that you upload the Radboud Statement of Education form (found at the bottom of this page) that has been completed by you or your school. This form will give Radboud University a more complete overview of your education.
- Transcript of grades
Upload a signed and stamped transcript of grades for the past two years. Please also upload transcripts and diplomas from any post-secondary education that you have studied or are still studying.
- Sworn translations of diploma and transcript of grades
Translations need to be made by a legally sworn translator. Certified translations are not required if your diploma and transcript are originally in Dutch, English or German. If your school provides English versions of your documents, please upload those along with versions of the documents in the original language.
- Personal Statement
Your personal statement should contain, at least, a brief description of why you have chosen this specific Bachelor's programme and how it fits your previous education.
- Overview of education/experience
Please upload an overview that contains, in chronological order, information about your education and knowledge/experience acquired during an internship, training, or work; for example, a resume.
- Proof of English proficiency (see admission requirements)
A sufficient level of English language proficiency is required. You can apply without an English language certificate. However, if you are admitted to the programme and a language certificate is listed as a requirement in your admission email, you will be required to provide proof of proficiency before the enrolment deadline.
Step 3: Admission decision
Your request for admission will then be processed. Within approximately 3 weeks after you have submitted the digital questionnaire. Student Admissions will inform you by email about the admission decision. There are three possible outcomes:
- You will be unconditionally admitted, which means that you can enrol in the study programme.
- You will be conditionally admitted: your admission decision contains the conditions that you will need to fulfil before you will be able to enrol in the study programme.
