Study programme of pre-Master's Biology
There are various ways to do a pre-Master's in Medical Biology. Firstly, your pre-Master's curriculum depends on the specialisation that you intend to choose in the Master’s programme. You can find the programmes for each specialisation below. Secondly, the content and length of your programme may depend on your previous education. Alternative routes are also possible.
Finishing the pre-Master's programme grants direct access to the Master’s programme; except in the case of the specialisation Microbiology, which has a selection procedure for all applicants.
Curriculum
Pre-Master's Adaptive Organisms
The pre-Master's Adaptive Organisms prepares you for the Master's specialisation Adaptive Organisms. Courses include: Plant Genome Analysis, Statistics, Animal Adaptation Physiology, Philosophy & Ethics of Science, Population and Evolutionary Biology, Advanced Molecular Biology and Endocrinology.
The pre-Master's Conservation and Restoration Ecology prepares you for the Master's specialisation Conservation and Restoration Ecology. Courses include: Ecological Theory and Data Analysis, Systems Ecology, Biological Invasions, Applied Ecology, Human & Ecological Risk Assessment, Ecophysiology of Plants, Animal Ecology and Population and Evolutionary Biology.
The pre-Master's Microbiology prepares you for the selective Master's specialisation Microbiology. Courses include: Genomics in Health and Environment, Infectious Diseases, Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Physiology of Microorganisms and Advanced Molecular Biology.
This pre-Master's programme prepares you for the Master's specialisation Environment & Sustainability. Courses include: Ecological Theory and Data Analysis, Systems Ecology, Human & Ecological Risk Assessment, Man and Nature: Present, Past and Future, Applied Ecology and Geographic Information Systems.
As a hbo student of a comparable programme at a Dutch University of Applied Sciences, you can follow a minor programme of 30 EC. In your 3rd or 4rd year, you follow courses from the Biology Bachelor's programme. It is possible to take a hbo minor with a general orientation or focus on a specific topic. You can follow the minor in P1 and P2 or P3 and P4. More information about the hbo minors can be found on the Kies op Maat website.
