Working in science
A world from which we demand more and more requires people who can make a contribution. Critical thinkers who will take a closer look at what is really important. People who wish to work together with their colleagues and with experts from other disciplines, in an open and safe environment where creativity and initiative are valued. Our modern, sustainable campus is compact and our work environment is informal. This means that your colleagues are all within easy reach, both literally and figuratively. And our facilities offer you the scope to put your ideas to the test and push your boundaries.
Impact through research
What is good research to you? For us, this means discovering, digging, collaborating, discussing and inspiring. You can judge us by our world-renowned research facilities and institutes such as the HFML-FELIX or the Donders Institute. But why not simply judge us by our science? By the knowledge we acquire through interdisciplinary collaboration and by the impact this has on humans and the world.
Impact through education
Through high-quality education, we train students to become academics with critical thinking skills. This prepares them for impactful positions in society. As a lecturer at Radboud University, you can optimally stimulate students' curiosity in our personal, open atmosphere. We give you the freedom to impart your knowledge in the way that suits you best. You also have significant input into the curriculum of your subject area. As a lecturer, we support your development as well. For example, visit the meeting lounge for teachers or attend one of the many training sessions and workshops.
The open and safe environment at Radboud University is extremely inspiring. I’ve felt totally at home here for over twenty years.
Hans de Kroon is a Professor of Plant Ecology and an initiator of the Healthy Landscape Research Consortium.
"I have freedom of movement at Radboud University. I can share my ideas with people from my own faculty, but I can also approach my colleagues from totally different academic disciplines. People are genuinely interested in each other and there is an ever-present air of equality. This type of open and safe environment is extremely inspiring. It has also led to extraordinary projects like the Healthy Landscape Research Consortium, in which ecologists, communication scientists and lawyers are contributing towards the restoration of nature. Collaboration can make a difference, and this is also evident from the way in which the university supports its academic staff. Research is fully embraced and promoted, which is affirmed by the way that it’s been used in the ‘You Have a Part to Play’ campaign. This actually enhances the social impact of our work. It makes me proud to be able to say that I’m conducting my research at Radboud University. I’ve felt totally at home here for over twenty years."
I quickly found my rhythm at Radboud University because of the great support, internationally friendly environment and likeminded people.
Yuxuan Dai is a PhD Candidate at the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging.
“I decided to pursue my PhD at Radboud University because of positive stories about the research quality and work environment from people I knew. Still, moving to a new country can be quite daunting. My routine was suddenly going to change completely. Having previously moved to London from my home country China, the transition to the Netherlands was not entirely unfamiliar. Yet, the prospect of moving to a non-English-speaking country posed a challenge. I questioned my supervisor multiple times about the necessity of learning Dutch. Fortunately, she assured me that the English level is very high in Nijmegen and the Netherlands.
When I came here, Radboud University offered valuable support with the hurdles of finding housing, healthcare, and establishing my life in a new country. For me, the Donders Institute is the ideal place for pursuing an academic path. The friendly and collaborative environment allows me to exchange ideas with researchers from all over the world. Through the university-wide PhD network, I could join fun activities and build my social circle.
Coming from big metropolitan cities like Beijing and London, I had to get used to the smaller size and more tranquil ambience of Nijmegen. However, I quickly learned there are still many things to do. The calmer atmosphere also allows me to fully focus on my research during the week. On the weekends, I can easily hop on the train and explore because of the compactness of the Netherlands. I now have found my rhythm at Radboud University, partly because of the great support, internationally friendly work environment, and like-minded people.”
