Roy Kessels is professor of neuropsychology, head of the Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology and clinical neuropsychologist at the department of Medical Psychology, His research focuses on human memory function, notably the interaction of working memory and episodic memory, implicit learning, neuropsychological assessment, and cognitive rehabilitation. Moreover, he examines memory deficits in brain disease, such as MCI, dementia, stroke and Korsakoff's syndrome. He uses various methods, such as structural and functional MRI, fNIRS and experimental psychology, and collaborates with various clinical disciplines (neurology, geriatrics, psychiatry, internal medicine). He is member of the scientific advisory board of the Federation of European Societies of Neuropsychology.
