Dr L. Vandeberg (Lisa)

Lisa Vandeberg’s professional interests have always been driven by the curiosity to understand how people use language to comprehend the world around them and make decisions. With this drive, she obtained her Master degree (2007, Radboud University, cum laude) and PhD (2012, Erasmus University Rotterdam) in Cognitive Psychology, with fundamental research on people’s mental representations during (first and second) language processing.

In search of societal relevance and knowledge utilization, she took the leap to the communication domain. As a Post-Doc and Assistant Professor in the area of Persuasive Communication (University of Amsterdam), she utilized her knowledge of theoretical psychological models and experimental research methods to study the implicit (versus elaborative) persuasive effects of various marketing messages.

She enjoys working at the intersection of persuasive communication and cognitive language psychology using various behavioral research methods. Her research, teaching, and valorization activities are characterized by an experimental psychological approach to societally relevant questions regarding persuasive communication. Her research interests as an Assistant Professor at Communication and Information Studies at Radboud University are currently focused on whether and how linguistic messages evoke multimodal mental representations and increase persuasion, and whether and how language might reduce resistance against persuasion in light of the current vaccination debates.
