Professor Bertjan Verbeek carries out a large scale international comparative study on (crisis) decision-making in foreign policy. Within this field, he is an expert in the following areas:
the influence of domestic politics, especially populism, on decision-making;
the role of international organizations during crises;
the learning ability of governments during and after crises.
The study focuses on decisions of military deployment (for instance, in the Iraq war) and decisions made during currency crises.
