Dr J.J. Zurné (Jan Julia)

Jan Julia Zurné is Lecturer in Political History at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. Her main research interests are connected to the history of occupied Western Europe during the Second World War. Other areas of interest are Transitional Justice, crime history and history of the judiciary and police.

After finishing the Research Master in History at the University of Amsterdam, Jan Julia Zurné did a PhD at the Centre for Historical Research and Documentation on War and Contemporary Society (Cegesoma) in Brussels and Ghent University. In 2017, she defended her PhD thesis on the attitude of the Belgian judiciary towards resistance violence during the Second World War. After this, she conducted a research on the judicial reaction to resistance violence during and after the liberation of Brussels. Like her PhD thesis, this project was funded by the Interuniversity Attraction Pool (IAP) Justice & Populations.
