General

After completing this Portuguese language course, you will be able to:

understand simple words, expressions and sentences;
ask and answer simple, short questions;
follow a simple conversation;
write simple, short sentences about personal matters;

The course focuses primarily on verbal communication, as well as reading, listening and writing skills. You will also learn more about Portuguese culture.

To receive a Radboud in’to Languages certificate, you need to attend 80% of the classes.

This course will help you on your way to language level A1. After completing this course, you can continue with Portuguese A1 to complete the A1 level.

Programme

This course takes place from 2 October until 27 November 2024. There is no class in the week of 21 October because of the Autumn Break.

Class day and time: Wednesday from 6.00 - 7.30 pm
Number of participants: min. 6 - max. 16

There will be eight meetings:
- 5 online meetings (2, 3, 4, 6 and 7) and
- 3 on-site meetings (1, 5 and 8).

Approach and content

Portuguese is spoken as much as possible during classes, with Dutch and English as the supporting languages. This means that in most cases, you can take this course if you do not speak Dutch. Please contact our Service Centre for more information.

You should count on about three to four hours of individual study per week.

What do the classes cover?

Skills

You will learn to greet other people and introduce yourself: who are you, how old are you, where are you from, what do you do for work, what nationalities do you have and what languages do you speak?
Asking how someone is doing and saying goodbye.
Modes of address - formal and informal
Asking questions
Talking about leisure activities, what you like to do, what you don’t like doing, what you do on certain days of the week.

We cover a range of topics in the Portugese halfway to A1 course, including grammar:

Using the articles o / a / os / as
The present tense of verbs like chamar-se, ser, falar, fazer, gostar, ter, gostar de...
The numbers
Using este / esta / estes / estas
Personal pronouns: eu / tu / ele / ela / nós / vocês / eles /elas
Using the prepositions de / em
Question words: Onde / De onde / O que / Qual / Quando / Por que (Porque) / Como…
