Language course Russian for beginners (halfway to A2)

Can you already understand simple words, sentences and short texts in Russian? Then the Russian course halfway to A2 is for you. You can take this course if you have completed the course Russian A1.

    General

    After completing this Russian language course, you will be able to:

    • have simple, short conversations on personal topics;
    • follow broadly everyday conversations on familiar topics;
    • understand broadly short, simple texts (brochures, advertisements);
    • write short, simple messages or emails.

    The course focuses primarily on verbal communication, as well as reading, listening and writing skills. You will also learn more about Russian culture.

    To receive a Radboud in’to Languages certificate, you need to attend 80% of the classes.

    This course will help you on your way to language level A2. After completing this course, you can continue with Russian A2 to complete the A2 level.

    This course takes place from 1 October until 26 November 2024. There is no class in the week of 21 October because of the Autumn Break.

    Class day and time: Tuesdays from 7.45 - 9.15 pm 
    Number of participants: min. 6 - max. 16

    There will be eight meetings:
    - 5 online meetings (2, 3, 4, 6 and 7) and
    - 3 on-site meetings (1, 5 and 8).

    Approach and content 

    Russian is spoken as much as possible during classes, with Dutch as the supporting language. This means you cannot take this course if you do not speak Dutch.

    You should count on about three to four hours of individual study per week.

    What do the classes cover?

    Skills

    • You will learn to talk about your favourite or native city (orally and in writing)
    • You will learn how to describe someone else
    • You will learn how to ask for directions in the city and to describe them
    • You will learn to have simple conversations in shops and markets
    • You will learn to describe your home (orally and in writing)

    Grammar

    We cover a range of topics in the Russian halfway to A2 course, including grammar:

    • The imperative
    • Ranking numbers and numerals
    • Third (dative) case of singular nouns
    • Inflections of adjectives
    • Verb aspects
    • The past tense of verbs and using aspects in the past tense

    The future tense and aspects of the future tense
