Would you like to learn Swedish and do you as yet have no knowledge of the language and culture? If you are an absolute beginner, the language course Swedish halfway to A1 is a great first step.

General

After completing this Swedish language course, you will be able to:

  • understand simple words, expressions and sentences;
  • ask and answer simple, short questions;
  • follow a simple conversation;
  • write simple, short sentences about personal matters.

The course focuses primarily on verbal communication, as well as reading, listening and writing skills. You will also learn more about Swedish culture.

To receive a Radboud in’to Languages certificate, you need to attend 80% of the classes.

This course will help you on your way to language level A1. After completing this course, you can continue with Swedish A1 to complete the A1 level.

This course takes place from 30 September until 25 November 2024. There is no class in the week of 21 October because of the Autumn Break.

Class day and time: mondays from 7.45 - 9.15 pm 
Number of participants: min. 6 - max. 16

There will be eight meetings:
- 5 online meetings (2, 3, 4, 6 and 7) and
- 3 on-site meetings (1, 5 and 8).

Approach and content

Swedish is spoken as much as possible during classes, with Dutch and English as the supporting languages. This means that in most cases, you can take this course if you do not speak Dutch. Please contact our Service Centre for more information.

You should count on about three to four hours of individual study per week.

What do the classes cover?

Skills

  • You will learn to introduce yourself: your name, your age, where you are from, what work you do
  • You will learn how to greet other people and how to ask questions
  • You will learn to use numbers and to tell the time.
  • You will learn to say what your day is like

Grammar

We cover a range of topics in the Swedish halfway to A1 course, including grammar:

  • Using Swedish verbs
  • The personal pronoun in the subject form
  • Question words (vem, var, vad, hur?)
  • Word order
