I teach two courses, the bachelor level "Theoretical Cognitive Science" and the master level "Societal Impact of AI". I lecture about the ethical, legal and societal implications of AI, neuroscience and technology in general. I aim to provide future professionals the skills to create and sustain an enduring dialogue between science and society.
My research interests are twofold.
In the field of neurophilosophy and neuroethics, I am interested in the societal implications of neurotechnology and neuroscientific research. In particular, I am fascinated by the role that knowledge about the brain-and the increasing capacity to intervene on it- plays in our common understanding of identity and self, freedom of will and mental privacy.
On the philosophy of technology side, I am part of the NWO funded project "Meaningful Human Control over Automated Driving Systems". By using an approach that is in line with the principles of responsible innovation and value driven design, this highly interdisciplinary project aims at minimizing accountability gaps that automated driving systems can create. My role is to investigate a notion of human control that could be meaningfully applied to the interaction between controllers and systems with different degrees of automation.
