My research is focused on the mechanisms supporting the integration of rules and perceptual processes into the sensorimotor machinery of the human brain. I study this integration in the domains of instrumental and communicative actions, i.e. actions selected for changing either the physical state of the world, or the mental state of another agent. Methodologically, I study the integration between percepts, concepts, and movements by considering both healthy and pathological human subjects, using a variety of neurophysiological techniques.
